Dr. Christos Patsalides was appointed Minister of Health on 29 February 2008.

Dr. Patsalides also served as Minister of the Interior from 16 July 2007 until his present appointment.

From 2005 until his appointment as Minister of the Interior, Dr. Patsalides was Director of the Foundation of European and Social Studies and Assistant Professor in Law at the Cyprus College. He previously held several positions at the Cyprus College including: Chairperson of the Department of Social Sciences (2003-2005); Assistant Professor in Law and Director of the Law Program (2002-2003); Lecturer in Law and Coordinator of the European Studies Program; Lecturer of Public Law at the University of Hull,UK.

He also taught at various other institutions including the Cyprus Institute of Banking Studies, the Cyprus Academy of Public Administration, the Cyprus Police Academy, the Cyprus Productivity Centre, the European Institute of Cyprus and the Cyprus Information Office of the European Parliament.

In addition, Dr. Patsalides served as Vice-Chairman of the Independent Police Complaints Commission where he was appointed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus in 2006 for a five-year term; as National Rapporteur at the 22nd Congress of Federation Interantionale du Droit European (FIDE, November 2006), as a member of the Political Planning Committee of the Democratic Party with responsibility for the EU Affairs section; as special advisor at the Centre for Strategic Analysis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, on the issue of the accession of Cyprus to the EU; as co-editor of the Cypriot Law Journal; as a founding member of the Cyprus Information Society (CINFOSO) an NGO providing information primarily on EU issues.

His scholarly research has focused primarily on the effects of the application of Community law on the national legal order and constitutional developments. His research projects include a comprehensive analysis of the Constitutional Treaty of the EU, and the External Relations of the EU Member-States: Competence, Mixed Agreements, International Responsibility and Effects of International Law.

Dr. Patsalides is the author of the book The Application of Community Law to the Cypriot Legal Order (Fall 2007). He has also published a number of articles in scholarly journals and has presented papers in many professional and academic conferences.

The Minister earned a Ph.D. in Law from The Law School of the University of Hull in the United Kingdom (Doctoral thesis: The Accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU: Constitutional Problems and Complexities) in 2000, as well as an MPhil Law (1998) and an LLB (1996) from the same institution. He is also a graduate of the Second Pafos Kykkos Lyceum (1991).

The Minister is fluent in English and has a working knowledge of French.

Dr. Patsalides was born in Pafos in 1973 and he is single.
